Details of Type 2 Diabetes and how PA can prevent it.

Type 2 Diabetes results from the body's ineffective use of insulin. It is  the result of excessive body weight and physical inactivity.

2 Consequences of having Type 2 Diabetes are the ff.

1) People with Type 2 Diabetes typically would have high blood pressure due to the excessive weight causing blockage in their veins and arteries.

2) With high blood pressure and glucose levels in your blood, this can lead to kidney disease by Type 2 diabetes which in turn leads to failure of the kidneys.

As for Prevention,

1) Achieve and Maintain an ideal body weight by being Physically Active.

2) Avoid excessive food intake. Only eat when "needed".

Physically Active things you can do on a daily to avoid Type 2 Diabetes.

1) Consistent brisk walking for a constant 30 minutes on a daily.

2) Calisthenic Activities

3 Common Diseases/Disorders Among Society

1. Diabetes - based off the WHO, Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. This site will focus on Type 2 diabetes which is mostly seen in adults but is also now frequently occurring in children.

2. Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) -  WHO identifies CVD as a collective term for disorders in the heart and blood vessels, mainly including; coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.

3. Arthritis - defined by Healthline.com, arthritis is the inflammation of the joints. It can basically affect one or more joints and with there being different types of arthritis there are numerous causes and treatments. One of the most common types, that this site will focus on, is osteoarthritis (OA).

What can you do to prevent these specific problems?

How PA can prevent CVD's.

Since CVD is a collective term for different diseases of the heart the information attained here will focus on a general description and the things you can do to prevent all of the diseases. The main behavioral risk factors of CVD are an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco and abusive use of alcohol. The effects of having any of these behaviors will result in high blood pressure, high blood glucose, overweight and obesity. Having any of these can then lead to developing a heart attack, stroke or any heart failures and complications.

Prevention by Physical Activity

1) The simplest way for older adults at risk of CVD is any Cardiovascular Activity with moderate-high intensity for 30 minutes. Activities can range to brisk walking, jogging, and running.

2) People can also participate in their local gym classes(yoga and zumba classes)

How PA can prevent Osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is caused by the excessive wear and tear of cartilage. Injury or infection to the cartilage can worsen the state  of natural breakdown of cartilage tissue.

Cartilage is the firm rubbery material that covers the end of bones in joints. OA causes cartilage to  lose its elasticity making it more vulnerable to damage. Being overweight or obese can also increase your chances of getting OA due to the increase pressure you put on your joints from the excessive weight.

Prevention by Physical Activity:

1) Light weightlifting will improve the use and strengthen your joints and bones. The repetitive weighted movement will increase your joints and bones ability to carry your own weight.

2) Gentle exercises such as swimming and aerobics can help strengthen your joints and bones without putting much pressure on your body.

"Moderate physical activity of at least 150 minutes per week is more effective than metformin to reduce the occurrence of diabetes."
